Wooden Racing Car

These cute little racing cars are hand carved from albesia wood and painted vibrant colours. Albesia is fast growing tree which produces a lightweight soft wood. In making these wooden toys artisans learn valuable job skills such as operating a lathe, painting, polishing and sanding. Hand crafted by skilled artisans working with Gospel House Handicrafts Ltd, Trade Aid's fair trade partner in Sri Lanka.

Who Made This: Gospel House Handicrafts focuses on training young aspiring artisans, and women working from home in the production of high quality intricately painted wooden toys for children. Generating skills and income from these environmentally sustainable products addresses the concerns that young people feel for their impact on the environment and in raising the next generation
